The 2020 Toyota lineup is starting off on the right foot. This year so far, a pair of Toyota vehicles have earned recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for their safety, earning IIHS Top Safety Pick awards.
Earning the IIHS’s highest award — Top Safety Pick+ — was the 2020 Toyota Camry. The 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, when equipped with Optional LED Headlights, has earned the honour of being named a Top Safety Pick.
To earn recognition in the 2020 Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards, each vehicle had to pass stringent crash tests and receive the highest rating of “Good” in each of them. These tests include passenger-side small overlap front, driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, roof strength, and head restraint tests. This is also the first time the IIHS has included pedestrian crash prevention ratings in its awards’ results.
For the Top Safety Pick+ rating, the vehicle also has to get a “Good” rating in headlight testing and an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for its available front crash-prevention technology.
The Top Safety Pick award requires either an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in front crash prevention and an “Acceptable” or a “Good” rating in the headlight test.
